New Global NCAP and Latin NCAP Report Calls for Mandatory Safety Labelling

As Transport Ministers gather in Leipzig for the International Transport Forum (ITF) Summit this week, Global NCAP and Latin NCAP publish a new report, calling on governments to introduce mandatory Safety Labelling for all new cars.

The world is experiencing unprecedented levels of motorisation, with nearly two billion new cars produced since 2000. Each new vehicle lacking robust safety features contributes to a growing global burden of road deaths and injuries.

Mandatory vehicle safety labelling would bring critical safety information directly to consumers, increase transparency and incentivize manufacturers to improve safety performance.

Global NCAP and Latin NCAP are urging Transport Ministers to take the following steps: 

• Introduce a vehicle safety labelling scheme

• Include relevant NCAP ratings for the label

• Make participation in the labelling scheme mandatory

We hope this report becomes a powerful tool for governments around the world, especially to those that have been postponing the adoption of a mandatory vehicle safety labelling scheme.”
