European and Latin American Car model comparative

Between the 12 and 16 of June the III Ibero-American Road Safety Congress (CISEV) was held in Bogota, Colombia. The Congress was attended by prominent speakers and attended by important representatives of governments and organizations related to road safety

 

Latin NCAP participated of this Congress with an information stand, designed exclusively for the event, where the Nissan Tiida was exhibited. This car was tested in Phase II of the program and introduced in Sao Paulo in November 2011. Moreover, Latin NCAP, through  Alexander Furas, Technical Director of Global NCAP, presented a comparison of prices and equipment for the Nissan March sold in Latin America versus the Nissan  Micra1 marketed in Europe. The first one was tested by Latin NCAP in 2011 and the second one was tested by Euro NCAP in 2010.

 

In this comparison, it becomes evident that in Latin America a Nissan March with or without airbags, is more expensive than the Nissan Micra with front, side and curtain airbags, plus ABS and ESC (Electronic Stability Control). Also, in countries like Colombia and Uruguay, at least 2,000 extra Euros must be paid in order to acquire the Nissan March version with airbags.

 

The evaluation of the vehicles tested shows that most sold cars in each country, provide safety levels 20 years behind the "five star" standards required in Europe and North America. Unfortunately, "one star" vehicles still dominate the market in Latin America and the Caribbean.
