Japanese company started manufacturing airbags in Uruguay
06.13.2012

The Brazilian branch of the Japanese company Takata, main supplier of airbags in Brazil, started manufacturing airbags in its Uruguayan plant. The company will manufacture six million airbag bags annually. Production will be exported almost entirely to Brazil since regulations make them mandatory in the safety systems of cars sold in the country.

According to ongoing regulations, as from the year 2011, 15% of new cars imported or manufactured in Brazil should have ABS and airbags for the driver and the front passenger. In 2012, this figure will be increased to 30%, to 60% in 2013 and finally in 2014 the requirement will be extended to all new cars.
